Wichita has a lot to offer the sports lovers out there including the annual NBC Semi-Pro Baseball tourney. Teams from all over the USA come to Wichita every July to play in the NBC. It is a lot of fun to watch these games and the crowds are always able to see some really good ball with future Big League stars in many of the lineups. This is Baseball at it finest!
We have easy access to several lakes with good boating and fishing. Cheney Lake is 20 minutes from the West side of town. Eldorado Lake is a quick 30 minute drive east of town. Both offer plenty of camp sites and lots of good fishing. Both are large enough for boating and all you water skiing enthusiasts.
There is a wonderful Ice skating rink open year round. With Hockey leagues for the little ones! The professional Hockey team is always fun to watch too!
Wichita State Basketball is regaining the prominence they enjoyed in past years. The Shocker Baseball program has produced many major league prospects and our Shockers consistently rank in the top 10 nationwide. Wichita State boasts some excellent degree programs - offering everything from Engineering to the Arts!
Across town we have two smaller universities - both with excellent educational offerings. Friends University is famous for their Singing Quakers who tour the world sharing their wonderful musical gifts. Their Christmas concerts are truly something to behold. Just a few blocks away from Friends is the local Catholic college - Newman University with a rich heritage of academic excellence. Newman has graduated many of the nurses who staff some of the world-class health care facilities Wichita has to offer.
The Parks in Wichita are among the best in the nation. We have plenty of free tennis courts. And numerous beautiful and challenging golf courses with green fees below the national average. Plentiful shopping, lots of movies and sports and the Annual River Festival help make Wichita a wonderful place to live.
